Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, a disillusioned German officer wounded in North Africa, joins a clandestine group of Wehrmacht officers determined to assassinate Adolf Hitler and seize control of the German government. The conspirators adapt an existing emergency continuity plan, Operation Valkyrie, to serve as the mechanism for their coup. On 20th July 1944, Stauffenberg plants a briefcase bomb at Hitler's Wolf's Lair headquarters in East Prussia, triggering a desperate and ultimately doomed race to consolidate power in Berlin before the outcome of the assassination attempt becomes clear.
