Fiorile
Directed by Paolo Taviani, Vittorio Taviani (1993)
A father drives his children through the Tuscan countryside, recounting the dark legend that has haunted their family across generations, tracing the origin of a supposed curse back to the Napoleonic era when an ancestor betrayed a French soldier for a stolen chest of gold coins. The story then leaps forward through time, showing how greed and misfortune shadow the family through subsequent historical periods, including the Second World War. The film weaves these episodes together as the children absorb a heritage of guilt, passion, and repeated moral failure, questioning whether the family is truly cursed or simply doomed by its own nature.
