Peopling the Palaces at Venaria Reale

Directed by Peter Greenaway (2007)

A grand multimedia installation created by Peter Greenaway for the restored Royal Palace of Venaria Reale near Turin, in which the artist uses projected imagery, light, and sound to conjure the ghosts of the Savoy court back into the palace's vast, now-empty rooms. Historical figures, servants, soldiers, and aristocrats are summoned through cinematic techniques layered onto the baroque architecture itself, transforming the building into a living canvas. The work explores themes of memory, power, and the relationship between art and the spaces that once housed it.
