Braunschlag

Directed by David Schalko (2012)

A small, economically struggling Austrian village becomes the unlikely focus of national attention when a local politician hatches a scheme to attract tourists by fabricating a series of religious miracles. The plan begins to spiral out of control as the eccentric and dysfunctional inhabitants each pursue their own agendas, leading to increasingly absurd and darkly comic consequences. The series blends biting satire with black humour to skewer rural provincialism, political opportunism, and the gullibility of the media.
