Set during the American Civil War, this drama follows the staff and patients of a Union Army hospital established in a requisitioned Virginia mansion. The series interweaves the experiences of two nurses from opposing sides of the conflict — one a committed abolitionist from the North, the other a Southern woman loyal to the Confederacy — as they navigate the brutal realities of battlefield medicine. The fates of the local family who once owned the house are also explored, as they struggle to adapt to occupation and the upheaval of war.
