A teenage girl in Naples becomes curious about her father's estranged sister after overhearing him make an unflattering comparison between her and this mysterious aunt. Seeking out her Aunt Vittoria, she discovers a very different world from the bourgeois intellectual household she was raised in, and begins to question the values and identities she has always taken for granted. The experience sets her on a turbulent journey of self-discovery as she navigates the gap between who she thought her family were and who they truly are.
