A troubled young woman joins the US Marine Corps and forms an intense bond with a combat dog named Rex during their service together in Iraq. The pair complete multiple tours of duty, surviving a near-fatal roadside bomb explosion that leaves both of them wounded. After returning home and struggling to readjust to civilian life, Megan fights to adopt Rex once he is retired from military service, determined to give the dog who saved her life a proper home.
