A ageing private detective operating in 1930s Los Angeles is hired by a wealthy young woman to track down her missing former lover. The investigation draws Marlowe into the city's glamorous but corrupt film industry, where powerful figures will go to considerable lengths to protect their secrets. As the bodies begin to mount, he must navigate a world of deception, violence and moral ambiguity to uncover the truth.
