Happy Days

A woman named Winnie finds herself buried up to her waist in a mound of earth, and later up to her neck, yet continues to chatter cheerfully about memories and mundane matters whilst her largely silent husband Willie potters about nearby. The play explores human endurance and self-deception through Winnie's relentless optimism in the face of an absurd and deteriorating situation. Written by Samuel Beckett, it stands as one of the defining works of Theatre of the Absurd.
