Two Brazilian sisters growing up in 1950s Rio de Janeiro are separated by circumstance and family deception, each believing the other to be unreachably far away. Eurídice pursues her ambitions as a pianist whilst her sister Guida, having eloped and been cast out by their conservative father, searches desperately for the family she has lost. The film traces their parallel lives across the decades, exploring how patriarchal society constrains and reshapes the destinies of women.
