A grieving boy struggling to cope with his mother's terminal illness begins receiving nocturnal visits from an ancient, tree-like creature that emerges from the landscape near his home. The monster demands that the boy listen to three stories, after which the boy must tell a fourth — his own truth. Through these dark and morally ambiguous tales, the boy is gradually forced to confront the guilt and anguish he has been unable to acknowledge. The film weaves fantasy and raw emotion together to explore how people survive unbearable loss.
