Regie Koldo Serra (2015)
A young American journalist arrives in the Basque town of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War and becomes romantically entangled with a local woman, even as the conflict closes in around them. Their relationship unfolds against a backdrop of political tension and moral complexity, culminating in the devastating German and Italian aerial bombardment of the town in April 1937. The film uses the real historical atrocity as the emotional centrepiece of a wartime love story.
