The Square

A pompous curator at a prestigious Stockholm contemporary art museum finds his liberal values put to the test when a chain of events — including a phone theft gone wrong and a manipulative campaign for his latest exhibition — exposes the gap between his public persona and his private behaviour. The centrepiece installation, a designated zone intended to promote trust and altruism, provides a pointed contrast to the selfishness and cowardice he displays in his personal life. Meanwhile, a viral publicity stunt spirals disastrously out of control, forcing the museum into crisis management and the curator into a reckoning with his own moral failures.
