Casting Genders

For simplicity, casting roles on enCAST are classified as either

To apply to these roles, you need to specify in your profile the gender of the roles you typically play: male or female.

Of course, you are free at any time to change the gender on your profile to reflect the roles you feel comfortable playing. To read more about this, see Your Gender.

Note: This classification is based on how roles are described by production teams. enCAST does not determine or enforce gender-based casting choices — we simply reflect the criteria productions specify when listing a role.

Additional Clarification #

We recognise that gender identity and expression are personal and diverse. However, many productions are still required (by script, story, or client brief) to specify a gender when casting a role. Our system supports this by allowing productions to indicate which gender of performer they are seeking — not to exclude anyone, but to ensure clarity during the casting process.

If you're non-binary or gender-nonconforming and unsure how best to present yourself for casting purposes, we encourage you to select the role type (male or female) that most closely matches the roles you usually play, and mark your applications with any additional info you'd like casting teams to know.

We welcome any feedback on this subject.
