Casting Overview

Casting 'Facing The Waves' a new musical from Dogwood Productions whose recent shows have toured England and been heard on BBC Radio 4.

Dogwood is the official theatre partner for the RNLI as it celebrates its 200th anniversary in 2024.

The new songs and music come from the award-winning, West End composer, Alastair Collingwood. The show brings together an iconic Victorian hero and a young mum, from the present day. Henry Freeman miraculously survived the Whitby lifeboat disaster when all the twelve other crew members perished. Following in the footsteps of those who came before her, Faith takes on every challenge presented to her. Work. Family. Crew. But life by the sea isn’t all chips and ice cream, and both face personal challenges. Not everyone can be saved.

The show will premiere in Whitby before touring Yorkshire and the North-East. There will be a three week rehearsal period. The production has been supported by Arts Council England funding.

Rehearsals start 31st August. Tour concludes 13th October 2024

Playing Ages: 26–36

Languages: English

ROLE: Mark m, 26-35, strong singer as this role is likely to include one solo number. The ability to contribute as a musician would be useful, but not essential. Mark is first the boyfriend and then the husband of Faith. He is seen at various ages from his student days to the present (in the range late 20s to early 30s). He has moved to Whitby, the main location for the drama, as a teenager, thus his accent is not necessarily Yorkshire. Mark is down to earth, supportive and a family man. Loving, he can be a little insecure. The production has a cast of six, some of whom will also be the show’s musicians. There are number of minor roles that will be additionally played by the cast, including the performer taking this role.
