Casting Amsterdam-based actors for ”Something To Remember Me By”, a student short film.
A short film about two friends, Aaron and Ellie, who share a very unique connection to each other that is very clear throughout the story. This film explores through these two characters the importance of human connection, and how deep it can be, as well as capturing the societal pressures and the isolation it creates, especially on young people in today’s world. Adult expectations, the complexities of youth, and the silent weight of what goes unsaid, as well as its consequences and the heavy burden on those who suffer through it. Through this story of two people, we explore their difficulties in their young life as well as their deep connection to each other. Both suffer through depression, and as they try to help each other, for one of them simply being there isn’t enough to keep them going.
Shooting in Amsterdam between the 20th and 31st January (dates to be determined soon).
Non paid. Catering will be provided + digital footage for your reels and credits as actor on the film.
Roles
FEMALE LEAD: Ellie
f, 17-22, fluent in English
Description: Ellie is introspective, witty, and an emotionally complex character. She hides her pain behind sarcasm and smiles, but carries a deep fear of being forgotten. A nuanced and layered performance is required to balance vulnerability and guardedness. Skills Required: Ability to portray subtle emotional shifts and deliver sharp, sarcastic dialogue convincingly.
MALE LEAD: Aaron
m, 17-22, fluent in English
Description: Aaron is Ellie’s best friend. He’s kind-hearted, yet slightly self-conscious. He grapples with the weight of being there for Ellie while addressing his own insecurities — caring what other people think. He often uses humour to defuse tension. He also smokes, but if the actor does not smoke, we can make sure to find fake cigarettes, preferably to smoke though. Skills Required: Strong chemistry with Ellie is essential. Ability to portray awkwardness and earnest care authentically, as well as the ability to deliver sarcastic dialogue convincingly.
SUPPORTING ROLE: Todd
m, 18-24, fluent in English
Description: A loud, fun-loving college student who embodies the party scene. Todd is confident and carefree, the life of the party, with a playful yet harmless vibe. Skills Required: Comedic timing
SUPPORTING ROLE: Aaron’s Dad
m, 40-60, fluent in English
Description: A wise and grounded man who provides Aaron with heartfelt advice. He’s a calming presence in his life and speaks with sincerity. Skills Required: Comfort in delivering monologues with emotional depth.
