Casting actresses of Indian heritage for roles in ”Unfair beauty”, a student short film.
”Unfair beauty” is my final project for my film studies. It is a short awareness film (approx. 3 minutes) about colorism in Indian society.
The story follows a mother and her two daughters as they confront and experience the effects of colorism within their family and social circles.
Shooting in Stuttgart, Baden Württemberg on 06.06- 07.06.2025
This is a non-paid project, as it is a student project. However, catering will be provided on set, and you will, of course, receive the final film for your showreel.
Roles
Role: Kiran
f, 16-19, Indian heritage, English speaker. Ideally, you should have some experience on film sets and feel comfortable in front of the camera.
Kiran is a self-confident and sensitive teenager who is confronted with the consequences of colorism on a daily basis – especially through hurtful remarks from her grandmother. She experiences how deeply societal beauty ideals are rooted in family structures. But Kiran is strong: Despite her inner wounds, she courageously stands up against these prejudices – not only for herself, but also for her mother Neha, who has had similar experiences.
Role: Neha
f, 40-50, Indian heritage, English speaker. Ideally, you should have some experience on film sets and feel comfortable in front of the camera.
Neha is the mother of two daughters – seven-year-old Mira and eighteen-year-old Kiran. Together, they face the challenge of dealing with the deeply rooted colorism in Indian society. As a mother, Neha struggles not only to instill self-confidence and pride in her daughters' skin color, but also to challenge and break down societal prejudices.
