THE MERMAID - strong acting abilities, with a very special and unique face that resembles a mermaid, maybe with amazing eyes, freckles or a distinctive “future face”. Very photogenic in a feature film style, interesting for the camera with a modern face. Ideally mid to long hair (hair will be wet on the shoot, as if coming out of the sea). Ideally pale skin with pale eyes. Native or fluent in English, but accents are fine (foreign or regional). The film will be shot entirely in English. A confident woman with a strong personality, spontaneous and fun, with a striking and genuine sense of humour. At the same time, she should subtle and natural in her performance & body language. Actors with a background in stand-up comedy are also welcome. Think Phoebe Waller-Bridges, Sarah Silverman. In terms of look, think Saoirse Ronan, Rebecca Ferguson, Anya Taylor-Joy, Elizabeth Debicki, Bryce Dallas Howard, Tilda Swinton, Alexa Chung or Emma Chamberlain.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SELF-TAPE

Actors can self-tape at home in a nice quiet area of their apartment/house where they receive natural light from a window or lamp. There’s no need to move furniture or use a white clear background, we can see your real flat and you should your sofa/couch.

You can use your phone/tablet/laptop or digital camera to film the required videos. There’s no need to edit or compress the video takes, it’s better to send the acting takes separately as our casting platform optimizes all the files you upload. You can film yourself in horizontal or vertical framing, whatever suits you best according to each scene and the space you have at home.

Dresscode: modern and casual, no need to use a fake mermaid tail. You can use a basic t-shirt or a top, shorts or skirt for the lower part. For the acting takes, actresses should wet their hair to make it look like a mermaid out of sea.

MAKE THE FOLLOWING SELF-TAPE

1) Video introduction (in medium shot, 30-45 seconds): Please tell us your name, agent and city of residence. Tell us briefly about your acting/modelling career and about any relevant film/series/theatre/comedy or advertising campaign that you would like to highlight. Please, tell us if you have done any campaign for medication/personal care in the past 2 years. Also tell us if you have any visible tattoos, especially in the upper part of your body. Show profiles and hands to camera.

2) Full body shot, film yourself for 10 seconds standing up and turn around to see the whole body (this is mainly a request of the prosthetic team)

3) Acting take 1 SCRIPT 20” (in a full body shot, laying down on a sofa or even on the carpet/floor, in a classic mermaid position, you can wet your hair a little bit to look more like a mermaid out of sea). Play the 20” version in a deadpan style (Acting Ref 1). You can start looking away and then turn to camera, like breaking the fourth wall, and deliver the text. Please, keep it natural and subtle, but feel free to add some nuances or intention to your performance.

4) Acting take 2 SCRIPT 20” (medium shot, you can change position) same as acting 1 but do it in a more spontaneous and fun way (Acting Ref 2).

5) Acting take 3 SCRIPT LONG VERSION OR IMPROV TAKE (full body shot). Please, try to do the long version of the script, no matter if you miss a line or change the script. Also, feel free to improvise and use your own words to make it more real and natural (Acting Ref 3).

5) Pictures: please, take a selfie at the end of the audition and a full body shot and upload them along with 4-5 pictures from your portfolio or instagram. If you have any mermaid-looking picture, from a recent scifi production, music video, fashion production, or AI generated images (which are a recent trend on instagram), please add them as well.
