Casting Open
English-speaking actors (m/f), 20-50, for short film in Berlin
Casting Overview
Casting Call for Berlin-based actors for roles in “Just Us (Not Ready)”, a short film (Part of Between Frames).
About the Project: "Between Frames" is an experimental student diploma film from SAE Berlin. It consists of six short vignettes, each told through a different genre — crime-fantasy, drama, sci-fi, comedy, musical, horror, and a closer. Together, they form a cinematic mosaic exploring human connection, perception, and identity — how we move between emotional “frames” in life and art.
"Just Us" is the 'drama vignette', focusing on love, control, and the rediscovery of freedom through body and emotion.
Short Synopsis: Justine, a former dancer turned lecturer, becomes entangled with Robert — a brilliant but controlling philosopher. As his influence deepens, she must confront the patterns of surrender she’s hidden in both love and art — and reclaim the movement that once set her free.
Shooting Period: 27 Oct – 8 Nov 2025 (8 days, exact dates TBA)
Shooting Location: Berlin, Germany
This is a no-budget student passion project developed at SAE Berlin, created together with people from the Filmmakers & Movie Nerds community, and the Berlin creative scene. It’s a collaborative and creatively open project — a space for experimentation, artistic exchange, and growth.

Roles
STUDENTS (3 roles, any gender, 20–30): Energetic, curious university students in Justine’s class with minimal dialogue.
Time commitment: one classroom shoot day.
FRIENDS AT BAR (2–3 roles, any gender, 25–35): Justine’s social circle — lively, funny, and opinionated. They bring humor and contrast to the film’s emotional tone.
Time commitment: one bar shoot day.
ROBERT (male, 28–35): A postdoctoral philosophy researcher studying “philosophy and capitalism.” Intelligent, magnetic, and dangerously self-assured, Robert hides deep insecurity behind charm and intellect. To him, love is not mutual — it’s proof of power. What begins as fascination with Justine’s independence becomes an obsession to contain it. He embodies the tragedy of intellect without empathy: a man who mistakes possession for intimacy and fears the freedom he desires.
BARISTA (any gender, 25–50): An “annoyingly motivated” barista with minimal dialogue — a light, ironic presence in the scene.
Time commitment: a few hours of shooting.
