Casting Overview

PROJECT TITLE: Campo (working title)
PRODUCTION TYPE: Short film (student thesis, Boston University) - approx. 15 min

SYNOPSIS: Over one summer on a public basketball court on the Tuscan coast, fifteen-year-old Guido spends his days among a loose group of local teenagers, quietly fixated on Francesca. When an older newcomer drifts onto the court, the group takes to him easily, and the summer's rhythms slowly rearrange themselves around him.
Told entirely from Guido's point of view, Campo is an intimate, naturalistic story about friendship, attraction, and the limits of how well we can ever really know another person. Handheld and observational, cast largely with non-professional local teenagers alongside one professional actor.

SHOOT LOCATION: Pietrasanta, Tuscany, Italy

SHOOT DATES: Second half of August 2026 (exact dates TBC), plus rehearsal beforehand

AUDITIONS: Self-tape, followed by a video call

TAKING ACTORS FROM: Tuscany / local hire preferred (Pietrasanta, Forte dei Marmi, Lucca, Pisa, Viareggio area).

Roles are not paid, but transportation cost will be reimbursed plus meals, credit, and a copy of the film provided. No accommodation provided.

Roles

Role: Guido

Gender: male

Playing Ages: 16–17

Languages: English, Italian

LEAD ROLE: GUIDO
male, playing age 16, speaking fluent Italian (all dialogue is in Italian) and English for communication on set (the director is American and does not speak Italian). Able to play basketball convincingly. Comfortable with improvised, handheld, run-and-gun shooting.

About Guido: The boy whose summer this is. Watchful and interior, he spends his days at the court and is quietly fixated on Francesca, reading her every mood as a reflection of himself. The film is told entirely from inside his point of view and he appears in nearly every scene. Looking for naturalness and a face the camera can stay on. Plays basketball.

To apply, please send:
A showreel link and /or a short self-tape — a few lines in Italian and a few in English (monologue or improvisation is fine)

Languages: English, Italian

LEAD ROLE: FRANCESCA
female, playing age 16, speaking fluent Italian (all dialogue is in Italian) and English for communication on set (the director is American and does not speak Italian). Beginner actors welcome.

About Francesca: Warm, alive and easy in the early summer; as the season turns she grows quieter and more withdrawn. We only ever see her from the outside, through Guido's eyes. The role is built from small behavioural shifts rather than large emotional playing — naturalness and ease on camera matter far more than technique.

About Julia: She is part of the core group and close to Francesca. Bright and at home among her friends, with a thread of her own that turns quietly inward by summer's end.

LEAD ROLE: LUCA
male, playing age 30–35, speaking fluent Italian (all dialogue is in Italian) and English for communication on set (the director is American and does not speak Italian).

About Luca: An older newcomer who drifts onto the court one summer and is quickly welcomed by a group of local teenagers. Charming, generous with his attention, easy in his body — magnetic without appearing to try. He anchors the film opposite non-professional young actors. We're looking for a grounded, characterful presence, someone compelling in stillness, rather than a conventional leading-man look.
