A production of Puccini's one-act comic opera in which a deceased Florentine merchant's greedy relatives discover his will leaves his fortune to a monastery, prompting them to enlist the cunning Gianni Schicchi to help them. Schicchi impersonates the dead man and dictates a new will to a notary, but outwits the scheming family by bequeathing the most valuable assets to himself. The opera also follows the young lovers Rinuccio and Lauretta, whose romance had been opposed by the family on grounds of Schicchi's low social standing.
