Babylon

A sprawling ensemble drama set during Hollywood's raucous transition from silent pictures to talkies in the late 1920s, following the intertwined fates of several figures chasing fame and excess in equal measure. An ambitious young Mexican immigrant, a wild and hedonistic actress, and a fading silent-film star each navigate the industry's seismic upheaval, while a jazz musician and a gossip columnist orbit their stories. The film charts the brutal cost of ambition and the wreckage left behind as one era of cinema is violently replaced by another.
