The Extraordinary Equiano

A documentary exploring the remarkable life of Olaudah Equiano, an eighteenth-century African who was enslaved and transported across the Atlantic before eventually purchasing his own freedom. Having become literate and widely travelled, Equiano published a celebrated autobiography in 1789 that became a powerful tool in the British abolitionist movement. The film traces his journey from West Africa through enslavement to his emergence as a prominent campaigner against the slave trade.
