Karl, a reserved and emotionally detached insurance clerk, forms an unlikely friendship with the gregarious and spontaneous Karl, a car-hire employee who draws him out of his rigid routine. Their bond gradually deepens as the more carefree Karl encourages his introverted namesake to embrace life more fully, though the relationship is tested when romantic feelings and personal crises complicate matters. The film is a quiet, understated German drama exploring loneliness, connection, and the transformative effect one person can have on another.
