An American tourist travelling through Europe by train strikes up a conversation with a glamorous woman, unwittingly becoming entangled in a dangerous game of pursuit by both Interpol and ruthless criminals. The woman, Elise, has been instructed by her mysterious fugitive lover to find a stranger who resembles him in order to throw their enemies off the scent. As the hapless Frank is chased across Venice, the lines between identity, deception and genuine feeling become increasingly blurred.
