A Swedish family attempts to maintain the appearance of harmony and togetherness during a holiday gathering, but underlying tensions, personal conflicts and long-suppressed grievances begin to surface among the relatives. The festive setting throws the family's dysfunctions into sharp relief as various members struggle to reconcile their idealised notion of family life with the messy reality of their relationships.
