A young man is arrested in Rome on suspicion of drug offences and held in custody, where his physical condition rapidly deteriorates over the course of several days. The film follows his final week alive, depicting the indifference and procedural failures of the institutions meant to care for him. Based on the real-life case of Stefano Cucchi, whose death in state custody in 2009 provoked widespread outrage in Italy.
